In the home stretch.

I thought the chaos would settle down a little, but not so much.  :)  Fortunately, the little boys rooms are unpacked and arranged and Adisson's is nearly finished.  Still need to get him a new bed but that might not happen until the weekend.  The school room is nearly put together.  I wish we could have painted before moving everything in and I suppose in a perfect world we could have timed things out a little better, but it didn't happen.  I'm saving it as a summer project.  Plus that will give me some time between now and then to decide if this current room set up is the way I want it to stay.

We're finally getting back to some hard hitting school this week.  It's been too long and it's noticeable.  I'm ready to work in some new things with Zander (lapbooking, anyone?!) and some funner things with Adisson.  Plus, Jax will be sitting in with some of Zander's activities, as well.  I'm hoping to concentrate on things better than we have in the past and spend less time trying to figure out what everyone is doing when.  Adisson still needs help with his online lessons and at the same time, the little guys want me to read or color with them.  So, I'm hoping in the next week or two we can work on alternating time with Mom.

The boys will be starting piano lessons soon, either this week or next.  I'm pretty excited!  I found a super great gal that does them out of her house during the day so I can't wait to incorporate that into our schedule. One of the things I find difficult is how much time we spend on activities during the evening and weekend, since that is crucial family time for us.  I'm really interested in finding activities that are catered to homeschool kids and meet during the day or early evening so we can be home when Adam's home from work instead of shuttling people here and there.  I'm also looking into a homeschool karate program, but more on that later.

Our big focus this week will be getting back into the swing of things.  Adisson will do more reading, more writing, more math, and much less whining during his lessons.  Zander will be working on his reading, with an emphasis on some sight words (practicing with some printable flashcards) because he still seems to be struggling with those when we have reading time.  Jax will be working his alphabet.  :)

We're also looking to add to our pet family with the addition of a kitten (or two!) so we're anxiously awaiting the news of an adoption application.  :)

Anyway, a busy day awaits us tomorrow.  The carpets are being cleaned at the old house and I still have to do some cleaning in the kitchen there (definitely shouldn't have put that off!).  Not looking forward to spending the afternoon cleaning in an empty house while kids complain about being bored.  :)

We're Home!!

Whew!  Sooo, we're technically in the new house, but also not quite out of the old one, yet.  :)  We still have a few things left at our old place and a MILLION boxes here at the new place!  Fortunately, my husband still hasn't gone to work since he returned home and has this week available to be here and help me get stuff done.  The plan is to have the boxes unpacked before next Monday.  We'll see if that happens!

And with all the moving business we're neck deep in, school has still remained on hold until next week.  By then, I'll have the school room arranged and set up!  I wish we had some time to paint it now because moving everything around when we do decide to paint is going to be a pain in the tush.  I think the boys are getting some pretty rad school desks to go in the new room.  I know some people may think that isn't necessary or is too much like trying to duplicate school here at home, but my guys are craving the personal space of their own desk and this seems to be the simplest way to accomplish that.  No, they won't be sitting at them all the time (because we do a large majority of our school work on the computer) but it will give them a place to be working on stuff when their brother is busy doing school online.

Not to say that we haven't done any school at all in the past few weeks.  The boys got tablets for Christmas and they've been busy playing some pretty neat games on them.  Zander was impressing us A LOT the other night with his newfound math facts!  I get all excited when he gets excited!  Plus, we've done a lot of talking with each other about all kinds of stuff.  We've worked on geography, history, and science with Adisson (who has discovered his love of Man vs. Wild on his Kindle).  We've talked about rhyming words, segmenting, and simple addition with Zander.  Jaxon's biggest learning hurdle this week is trying to remember that he's three and not two anymore.  :)  We've read books, watched some cool Netflix shows, and played some educational games.  So...we're not sitting in our super awesome (to be) school room, but we're learning.

A lot to get done this week.  I'm sooooo anxious to get back to school work and getting back to real work for me.  (My online job that is.  As I missssssssss doing more of it since our hectic days/weeks have meant a super light workload... :(

Plus, I'm pretty sure Adam is excited to get back to work, too.  We love each other...a whole bunch...but we also need some time apart to remember why we like each other so much.  :)  Funny sentence to type when just a few weeks ago he was gone and I was missing him TERRIBLY!!  But that's always how it goes for us!!

One day closer to moving...

Ohmygoodness!  I hate moving!

Well, that's not entirely true.  I love change.  I love the newness it brings, the excitement it offers, it feels natural to change.  That's good for me since I married a soldier.  Typically speaking, we're known for moving around a little.  :)  This "new" duty station, however, should be a constant for us for awhile so it was nice to decide to build a be permanent, as much as we can be, anyway.

It's offering me a whole different kind of excitement!  We've owned a home before, but in the 4 1/2 years we had it, Adam was gone for nearly 3 of them.  I was left to take care of EVERYTHING and it was overwhelming.  He'll still be gone a lot, but I'm older now and have figured a few things out. :)

All that is on hold for right now.  There's no way I can keep up two houses, pack and move, and get a good, decent school day in.  But it's ok.  We'll be back to school soon and hit it hard.  I always get rejuvenated after a break.  :)  Right now, I've been thinking about how our school room will be set up in the new place.  I can't wait to get it all arranged for my guys.  It won't be a multi-purpose room for us anymore, not as much as it is now, so it will be nice to clear out some of the toys and stick with the good stuff.  :)

Adisson has been working on a little writing, somewhat on his own and a little encouraged by me.  I think I might look into a creative writing tutor in the next few weeks; at least knowing that's an option helps me maintain some confidence that there's still hope of him being a better writer.  He's really pretty good if I can get him to focus on what we're working on, but sometimes that's much easier said than done.

I'm ready to get back to homeschooling. I miss that time with my guys.  I miss reading with them, schooling with them, and doing projects.  I'm ready to find our normal again, no matter how short lived it is.  :)

Just a few more days of chaos....well, of moving chaos.  Unpacking chaos is a whole 'nother monster.  :)

Extended winter break for us!

This past week was a VERY busy week for us.  We finished up our trip in Ohio, drove for 3 days, spent 2 nights in a hotel, and finally made it home. To spend the weekend packing boxes, unpacking the van, and trying to get ready for Daddy to come home!

We haven't gotten started on school work yet, though our winter break is coming to an end.  It will be a rough few weeks as we deal with packing, moving, and unpacking.  I started thinking about Adisson's school Kindergarten, his Dad was deployed, in 1st grade we moved to a new state and added another younger brother, in 2nd grade, we moved off post into a different house, in 3rd grade we moved to a new state, and now in 4th, we're moving yet again, but thankfully for the last time for awhile.  It's a good thing he's resilient.  :)

So last week, I talked about how one of things we'll be focusing on this half of the year is better paragraph writing.  I also plan on reviewing the importance of spelling with Adisson and reading comprehension with Zander.  We're also adding in some private piano lessons, more science experiments (hopefully a science fair), on-purpose art projects, and reading.  We do a lot of that already, but I want to work on better scheduling it so we're more prepared and have a better time working on stuff.

Ok, I don't want to cut this short, but I've got more projects than I have time and a husband who will be making his way back to me soon.  :)
