Planning and Organization

We've been having a really awesome summer!  There's so much that we've done so far and a lot more planned.  Right now, I've got one kiddo away at summer camp and another leaves for his summer camp in less than two weeks.  I've got a great summer post coming up soon.  I know school is likely starting for many people in just a month or so, but there's still plenty of time to have fun with the kids!

So, my biggest fella is away at summer camp.  It's the first time he's ever been to camp and I'd be lying if I didn't say that I've spent some time being a little worried.  I can't help it.  To keep my mind off of every "what-if" and worst case scenario, I've been trying to stay pretty busy.  So, I've been doing some of my favorite activities: planning and organizing.

Figured I'd add some silly photos of the kids, just because.
Here's Adisson at Skyline Chili in Ohio.

Planning

I've been working quite a bit on getting the boys lessons plans figured out for the upcoming school year.  New to us this year is our participation in a local homeschool co-op.  We've tried co-op's before but they haven't worked out for us in the past.  This year, we're giving it another shot.  However, it's proving to be a bit difficult to plan around a co-op.   I'm used to planning each of the boys' lessons exclusively.  It's a new place I'm in allowing someone else to be planning some of what my kids will be learning.  (Yes, it's perfectly clear to me that I have control issues!)

Adisson will be entering the 6th grade, so I will now have a middle schooler at home.  Zander will be in the second grade and Jaxon will be "officially" in preschool.  I've also found that trying to plan each day for three boys at different grade levels is a bit daunting.  Nonetheless, I'm working on lesson plans.

In the past, my lessons plans have been written out on paper and kept in our School Organization Binder.  I've used a planner to plan each day and last year I tried using Google Calendar to make my lesson plans.  This year, I'll be trying something different, yet again.  Lately, I've been working on color-coded spreadsheets.  I'll let you know in six months if that worked out.

Organization

Our homeschool room.  It's always an area of our home that I am working on improving and organizing.  I haven't added much to our homeschool room this year, though I have taken a few things out.  It's not quite ready for the big First Day of School reveal, but I've been working on it since we returned from our vacation in Ohio.  Here are some posts of our previous school rooms--this one in the rental house we lived in prior to this house and our homeschool room in this house from last year.

On a smaller scale, I'm trying to get all of our preschool goodies organized and arranged in the best way possible.  But not only do I have to organize our preschool materials, I have a lot I'd still like to make.  I won't be purchasing a preschool curriculum for Jaxon to use this year (aside from his subscription to Time4Learning) but instead "making" a curriculum from what we already have on hand--something I haven't even begun.

My littlest one being silly.

In Other News...

I have a lot on my mind as far as blogging is concerned.  I can't quite figure out the best direction for me to go as I pursue blogging more.  I also wonder if there's any point in sending all of these words and sentences out into the great hole of the internet.  Sometimes, I have some awesome ideas and then don't seem to have the follow through to see them to the end.  Other times, however, I sit at the keyboard with my fingers on the keys, poised to deliver the best blog post you'll read that day...and the words don't seem to make it to my fingers.  Still working on finding some inspirations.
