My name is Nicole McGhee. I'm a homeschooling mama to three very energetic boys and the wife to one incredible soldier. We're an active-duty Army family and have been so for the last decade and a little more. We've been a homeschooling family from the start, but it wasn't something that we planned before we had kids. As the time came to think about sending our oldest son to school, we started thinking more and more about homeschooling. With both of us on board, my husband and I decided we'd give it a try.
I've been asked several times in the past 7 years when we plan on sending the boys to public school. I used to answer people by telling them we only knew what this year had in store for us and leave it at that. This way, I could leave the decision open. However, in the past few years, we have certainly made up our minds. Our sons belong at home, so this is where they'll stay.
Our boys are 13, 9, and 6. They love to play around and wrestle. They enjoy playing with our pets (one old dog and two very mischevious cats). We're very involved in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts so we like to go camping and spend time outside. The kids are avid LEGO fans and could spend hours building with bricks.
We supplement with field trips, nature walks, plenty of LEGO time, family reading, and whatever else the boys find interesting. We like to travel for vacation or to visit family out of state. If our trip will be longer than usual, we'll take school on the road. Homeschooling also enables us to have extra family time when my husband returns home from a deployment or extended trip away.
I'd love for you to follow along our journey of a homeschooling, military family full of awesome kids.
